Listen to A Carolina Christmas A concert of new and traditional songs of the season, recorded in the largest room of the largest private home in America: Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina.

A Carolina Christmas from Biltmore Estate, with Kathy Mattea is a festive celebration of the Appalachian folk traditions and other styles native to the Carolinas. In this holiday special from WDAV and NPR, you’ll hear African-American spirituals, folk favorites, Celtic jigs, and sacred music of the season. At center stage is two-time Country Music Association Female Vocalist of the Year Kathy Mattea, with fresh arrangements from her two remarkable holiday albums - the Grammy award-winning Good News, and Joy for Christmas Day. Ms. Mattea is accompanied by the Carolinas’ premiere choral ensemble, VOX, as well as the Baroque/Celtic group The Beggar Boys.

The concert comes to you from the magnificent Banquet Hall of Biltmore Estate, America’s largest private home, built by George Vanderbilt more than 100 years ago. First opened to friends on Christmas Eve 1895, this French Renaissance chateau is a veritable museum of original art, 16th-century tapestries, and priceless antiques. It is open to the public for tours – but very few people in the last 90 years have had the privilege of hearing music performed in that grand hall.

Join us as we bring you a holiday treat from this most opulent of settings: A Carolina Christmas from Biltmore Estate, with Kathy Mattea. On public radio stations this winter, from WDAV in Davidson, North Carolina, and National Public Radio.
